I have lived in suburbia my whole life. My husband and I are moving soon to the downtown of a large city (not as large as New York or LA, but not exactly small either).
What do I need to know about ?

Well for one thing, you’re sure to encounter the occasional hobo, that’s hoBO not hoMO dear, so just remember if you give em change, you’ll NEVER get rid of em.

Well I’ve lived in urban areas all my life in the city of Chicago. If you’re going to be taking public transportation for anything it’s good to have bus and train maps and know the routes that go to where you need to go. There are a lot of people around, especially in the summer. Just be careful and be mindful of your surroundings at all times. Some areas are worse than others but urban areas aren’t all bad. Downtown areas are usually nicer than inner city urban areas and there’s usually lots of different things to do and places to go. Lots of nice restaurants and such. I love living in the city. It’s true that the city never sleeps because there’s always something going on that you could do.

Only walk where you know it is safe, otherwise drive or catch a cab. Subways are good too, but only when you’re not alone, otherwise I always feel nervous.
Most small cities are just nice and lovely. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll start to feel comfortable and in the swing of things.
My favorite city is Boston. Providence is great too, but if you blink you might miss it! I’m also really fond of San Diego.
The thing to remember is that you’ll find friends wherever you go, because most people are just basically nice.
No worries, you’ll do fine.

If anyone looks at you more than 3 seconds you can go ahead and put your hand on your gun.
